Brazil’s competition watchdog last week published details of a leniency agreement tied to its sprawling investigation of misconduct linked to Petróleo Brasileiro, identifying a slew of companies potentially involved in alleged bid-rigging that affected several of the energy company’s construction tenders.

Vicente Bagnoli at Vicente Bagnoli Advogados in São Paulo said the latest announcement by CADE reflects the continued importance Operation Lava Jato has to the Brazilian economy. “[The] investigation is a very important turning point for the political and economical environment in Brazil that goes beyond a simple cartel case,” Bagnoli said.
